A New Chapter Is Beginning
For more than 100 years, The Neighborhood Center has served children, families, and neighbors throughout the city of Harrisburg. As this chapter of the organization comes to a close, its legacy of care and community connection is helping make something new possible.
The Harrisburg Neighborhood Center is an emerging nonprofit organization committed to working alongside our neighbors and creating opportunities for children, individuals, and families to flourish. This new organization is being developed in partnership with The Journey United Methodist Church, which is preparing to receive and steward The Neighborhood Center’s building at 1801 North Third Street and support the development of renewed community programming.
The foundational work has already begun. A new board of directors has been formed, a program director has been hired, and leaders are listening to neighbors and community partners as we discern how the Center can most faithfully serve the community in this next season.
We are beginning as neighbors, ready to listen, learn, collaborate, and build upon the meaningful work that has already taken place here.
This website will remain available through November 2026. Additional information about the Harrisburg Neighborhood Center, including future programming, volunteer opportunities, community partnerships, and ways to support the work, will be shared as plans continue to develop.

We offer preschool, toddler care, and more to residents of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit and member of the United Way of the Capital Region, we can offer extremely affordable care for your child!
The Neighborhood Center of the United Methodist Church has served a multi-ethnic uptown neighborhood, as well as the total Harrisburg community, since 1910 with educational, cultural, social service, basic needs, leadership, and recreational programs for children and their families.
The Neighborhood Center exists with the financial, in-kind, and volunteer support of thousands of caring individuals.
We are always looking for caring individuals who are interesting in serving their community.
